Posted by Gary Pickering on March 16, 2013 at 7:15 PM Comments comments (0)

On Thursday March 14, 2013 I attended a public meeting in the Midland Recreation Centre hosted by Mayor Gord Mckay. Also in attendance were a number of other Georgian Bay Mayors as well as the Federal MP Gord Stanton and Provincial MPP Garfield Dunlop.

There were about 100 people there.

The mayors are keenly aware of the urgency of this matter and are pressing for immediate action by the feds and province. Their focus is on the economic negative impact on...

Parks Canada Seasonal Pass Increse

Posted by Gary Pickering on February 8, 2013 at 9:05 AM Comments comments (0)

Per article today in Midland Free Press.

Seasonal permits $ 20.00 per foot versus $ 9.80 in 2012.

Over night $1.25 per foot.

Reason given to match Marina rates.

Question with the lowest water level since 1918 when records were kept

how many docks will be available.

At least 25% at Cedar Springs will be to shallow if you can even get near.

Other dockage location probably fair no better.

Will not buy permit until I know availability.

Boating in the Bahamas

Yesterday I rented a 17 ft boat in Georgetown Bahamas and went snorkelling. Beautiful fish and beaches. Lot of Canadians anchored off Stocking Island. Great hamburger at Chat n Chill. Bit nerve wracking boating here though. Water is so clear looks like you might hit bottom.

WATER LEVELS GREAT LAKES

All boaters should be concerned about water levels in the Great Lakes. Those of us on Georgian Bay have already seen evidence of low water levels. Jim Thomas has given up on using the 15-foot sailboats he keeps propped against the dock behind his cottage. In the 12 years since he and his wife, Pat, bought a bungalow on the edge of Georgian Bay, they’ve watched their shoreline slowly recede, creating a grassy patch behind their home and making it im...

Marinas Gear up for Hurricane Sandy

Suggestion for Boaters

Posted by Gary Pickering on October 4, 2012 at 1:55 PM Comments comments (0)

Recently, there was a fire at Bayport Yachting Centre in Midland Ontario. Two boats were destroyed but fortunately, no one was injured. It did, however, get Scott Cain, Manager at Bayport, thinking and he is now strongly recommending that boaters install smoke detectors on their boat. Even if they are not there, a fire caused by an electrical short would set it off thus alerting any neighbouring boaters who might be at the Marina. It is not unusual for boatersd to contact the marina office if...
